Anxiety: Understanding the Feeling and Finding Your Ground

Anxiety is something most of us experience at some point. It is your mind and body responding to perceived danger, pressure, or uncertainty—a built-in system designed to keep you safe. A little anxiety can actually help you stay alert and prepared. But when it becomes intense, constant, or overwhelming, it can start to affect how you think, feel, and move through your day. If you have been feeling stuck in worry or tension, you are not alone, and it is something that can be worked through.

Common Anxiety Symptoms

Anxiety does not always look obvious. It can show up in quiet, everyday ways that are easy to overlook. At times, anxiety can feel like your mind is running ahead of you and your body is trying to catch up.

Physical Manifestations: Racing heart or palpitations; breathlessness or tightness in the chest; stomach discomfort, nausea, or uneasiness; restlessness, sweating, or fatigue.
Behavioral Indicators: Fidgeting such as shaking legs, nail biting, or restlessness; avoiding situations that feel uncomfortable; difficulty slowing down or relaxing.
Emotional and Mental Patterns: Racing or looping thoughts; constant worry or overthinking; feeling like you are spiralling or stuck in your head; trouble focusing or making decisions.
